A Quirky Bespoke Bathroom Renovation in Stowmarket: Transforming an Old Jail Cell into a Stunning Space:
At AMPM, we thrive on taking on challenging and unique renovation projects, and our latest work in Stowmarket, Suffolk, was certainly no exception. Recently, we had the exciting opportunity to carry out a bathroom renovation in the heart of a historic old courthouse — specifically, within the old jail cells! This quirky setting made the project all the more special, with a mix of old-world charm and modern design blending seamlessly to create a bathroom that is both functional and full of character.
A Unique Space with Plenty of Character:
The bathroom was located within the former jail cells of the courthouse, and as you can imagine, this presented us with some interesting challenges. From irregular room shapes and ceiling heights, every aspect of this renovation required careful thought and creative solutions. But with a dedicated team and a great collaboration with our client, we managed to overcome all the hurdles and deliver a bathroom that was truly transformative.
Bespoke Design Meets Luxury Finishes:
Working closely with the customer, we were able to bring their vision to life with a combination of bespoke elements and carefully chosen luxury finishes.
One of the standout features of the project was the stunning 1400mm double vanity unit that was custom-designed to fit the space perfectly. The independent wall-mounted taps, installed both at the bath and vanity unit, added a sleek and modern touch while maximizing the room’s flow, while the illuminated (and heated) mirror above the vanity, of the same shape make a great double act of class.
In the cloakrooms, we incorporated light oak acoustic cladding, providing warmth and texture while maintaining a contemporary and functional aesthetic. The cladding also helped with soundproofing, making the space feel more private and comfortable.
Stylish Details That Make a Statement:
We believe it's the little details that make a big difference, and this project was no exception. For all the basins and showers, we installed luxury brass finish furniture, which perfectly complements the dark tones of the rest of the room. Matt black towel rails in all three rooms give a bold, industrial edge, standing out against the soft finishes.
The finishing touch was the use of brick bond Metro tiles in a striking black and white pattern. These tiles added texture and visual interest while tying together the traditional and modern elements of the design.
Overcoming Challenges and Delivering Results:
One of the most exciting aspects of this project was the opportunity to work with such a unique space. The old jail cells presented many challenges, from awkward layouts to the need for careful planning when installing fixtures. But through close collaboration with our client, we ensured that every detail of the design, from the walls to the flooring, was thoughtfully executed. The finished bathroom now perfectly combines comfort with style, offering a space that's both functional and full of character.
